Which Cursive Worksheet Should My Child Use?

Match the sheet to the stage. Start with letter pairs, then words, then sentences, and move on only when the joins are secure.

Stage Sheet type Example

Fluent joins Sentences Short, familiar sentences

The DfE writing framework says joined handwriting should not be taught until pupils form print letters "correctly and consistently". Give sheets after the join has been shown, and stay nearby while children write. See handwriting joins for the joins themselves.

How Are The Join Sets Organised?

The join sets follow the usual UK order, from the diagonal join to small letters to the joins to tall letters. Each set uses pairs of one join type only.

  1. Diagonal join to small letters: in, an, ai, ar
  2. Horizontal join to small letters: oo, ra, vi, wn
  3. Diagonal join to tall letters: ib, ah, il
  4. Horizontal join to tall letters: ol, wh, rh

Schemes differ on the order after the first two sets, so change the order to match yours.
